PermaBase Tape is an essential component in construction, particularly when working with PermaBase Cement Board. This tape is made from alkali-resistant fiberglass, which makes it durable and resistant to damage from alkaline substances commonly found in cement-based products. It is specifically designed to reinforce joints and fill gaps between the tapered edges of PermaBase Cement Boards.
When applying the tape, it must be embedded into a bonding material, which is typically applied with a trowel. This process ensures that the tape fully adheres to the board and reinforces the joint. The bonding material should be applied generously, and the tape must be pressed into it immediately to achieve a solid bond. After embedding, the material is allowed to harden, securing the joint and providing a smooth surface for further finishing.
Some variants of PermaBase Tape come with a pressure-sensitive adhesive on one side, simplifying the installation process. This adhesive side allows the tape to be directly applied to the board's surface before being covered with the bonding material. The tape's design, featuring large openings, facilitates easy embedding, ensuring that it integrates well with the bonding material and enhances the joint's strength and durability.
