You may be familiar with the Danish lifestyle concept of Hygge, over the past year, this simple idea has gained global popularity. Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) is getting people through the Autumn/ Winter evenings and beyond.
We have compiled a few easy ways for you to introduce Hygge in to your home:
1.) Focus on lighting. It is very important to invest in the right lighting for your home. A well lit room will illuminate those dark Winter evenings and accent lights are great to add a soft, warming glow to your space. Invest in lamps and lighting that will enhance your home.
2.) Create a ‘safe haven’. Invest in yourself and your space. Create a little corner/ nook in your home where you can sit in comfort, uninterrupted and get stuck in to one of those books that has been gathering dust on the shelf. Layer up this space with textural cushions and throws to make it even more inviting.
3.) Indulge more. This doesn’t mean spending money on luxury commodities. It simply means making time to indulge in the things that bring you joy. Test that cake recipe that you’ve had for weeks, light the fire, turn your phone off and spend time with your pet or watch a film. Indulge in your own interests.
4.) Light some scented candles. Spend some time picking out a scent that you love and introduce these candles throughout your home. Not only are candles relaxing, they offer a warming quality.
5.) Attend relaxed gatherings. Gather loved ones around the table for a hearty, home cooked meal or throw a Camembert in the oven and serve with some tasty bread from the local bakery. It’s all about wholesome, easy meals with the people you love the most, in a relaxed and personal setting.
So it turns out Autumn/ Winter isn’t all doom and gloom, we just have to make a little more effort to embrace and enjoy it!
